Smooth Romantic Way (ft. Eleanor Forte)

I've always liked songs that tell a story. When I started writing this song, I wanted to tell a humorous story of someone who wanted to confess their love to someone else, but things kept happening that prevented it. I think it turned out pretty funny.

This is the first song where I tried to use breath samples. Or rather, I faked using breath samples because the voice library for Eleanor Forte Lite doesn't have any. Using the "hh" phoneme along with a vowel can make a pretty convincing breath sound, if you turn the breathiness parameter all the way up. Here's a video that explains the process with more detail.

Lyrics

The day has finally come
I'm gonna tell you you're the one
This girl is tired of being hesitant and scared
The courtyard on 2nd Street
That's where we're supposed to meet
I take a long, deep breath and fix my messy hair

I turn around to see you waving back at me
I run toward you, ready for your warm embrace
True love has been betrayed by my own two feet
'Cause I trip and fall flat on my face

What should I do?
I'm nowhere near as charming as you
How do you do these things without wanting to turn away?
I always find
My courage left behind
One day you'll see my smooth, romantic way
But not today

Date night, just me and you
Candle light dinner for two
I wanna tell you what you mean to me somehow
The waiter brings our drinks
Just enough time to think
I can't be shy, I gotta do this right now

I reach out for the hand I wanna hold so much
'Cause I can't hold back my feelings any more
The moment stops before our fingers even touch
As I knock your glass right to the floor

What should I do?
I'm nowhere near as charming as you
How do you do these things without wanting to turn away?
I always find
My courage left behind
One day you'll see my smooth, romantic way
But not today

I look up to the sky while trying not to cry
I'm so embarrassed and it's hard to meet your eye
Fate has it out for me so I guess I'll never be
A fearless girl, just an endless apology

The meal is done and we're headed home
Late night, we're all alone
Walking hand in hand while the crickets serenade
I had plans to share my heart
Every one fell apart
But I've got one more card I still haven't played

I turn to face you, hoping nothing goes amiss
Wrap my arms around you, stand up on my toes
But I move too fast, so instead of a tender kiss
I just slam my head into your nose

What should I do?
I'm nowhere near as charming as you
How do you do these things without wanting to turn away?
I always find
My courage left behind
One day you'll see my smooth, romantic way
But not today
